ITINERARY

Week 1
WELCOME DINNER
Our first dinner together as a group will be at a local restaurant hand-picked by your Bologna host. You will be able to meet other members in the program and get to know the local host.
HALF-DAY FOOD TOUR OF BOLOGNA
Wander through the markets, try homemade Bolognese ragu, taste test gelato, and enjoy a spread of meats and cheeses during this food tour of Bologna.
GELATO TASTING
Taste gelato from two of the world’s best gelaterias and decide which one you prefer.
WEEK 2
DAY TRIP TO MODENA + VISIT TO PARMIGIANO REGGIANO PRODUCER
Spend the morning at a Parmigiano Reggiano producer to get a behind-the-scenes look into the process of making this Italian staple. Then spend the afternoon in Modena tasting balsamic vinegar and other local specialties.
GROUP MEAL
Gather with the group at an authentic restaurant, hand-picked by our local food expert.
VISIT THE SANCTUARY OF THE MADONNA DI SAN LUCA
Follow the portico pathway up to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca and enjoy a picnic lunch.
Week 3
PASTA COOKING CLASS WITH A LOCAL
Escape to the Italian countryside and learn how to make your own authentic pasta dish with a sfoglina.
GROUP MEAL
Gather with the group at an authentic restaurant, hand-picked by our local food expert.
BOLOGNA UNIVERSITY
Visit the oldest university in the western hemisphere followed by lunch at one of the best panini spots in town.
WEEK 4
WINE TASTING AT A LOCAL VINEYARD + PICNIC LUNCH
Visit a Lambrusco factory in the hills of Modena and taste gnocco fritto (a local specialty) with cured meat and cheese. Tour the vineyard and enjoy a wine tasting along with lunch.
MEET UP FOR GRANITAS
Meet up with the group to taste some of the best almond and pistachio granitas outside of Sicily.
FAREWELL LUNCH
Our last meal together as a group before we say our goodbyes. This will be the time to reflect on your experience in Bologna and enjoy a delicious Italian meal before heading out.

ACCOMMODATION

You will have the option to book either a private studio apartment or a private room in a shared 2-3 bedroom apartment. The price will vary depending on your preference. 

All apartments come with a fully equipped kitchen and wifi.

The CoWorking Space

We’ve partnered with a local coworking company that provides a great space to get your work done while you’re in Bologna.

The coworking space includes:

  • High-speed internet
  • Flexible desks
  • 24/7 access

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

We provide you with a place to call home for the month. Accommodations vary from a private bedroom in a shared apartment to a private apartment depending on your preferences. 

All apartments include a fully equipped kitchen and WIFI.

We understand that work needs to get done. We provide you with 24/7 access to a coworking space with high-speed WIFI for the entire duration of your stay. 

During your stay, you’ll go on four local food and cultural experiences.

We want you to taste and experience the best food in Bologna, which is why we’ve hand-picked four of the most authentic food experiences for your stay.

Once a week, we’ll take you out to one of the best restaurants in all of Bologna. Some activities include meals as well – see itinerary for more details.

A local host will help you with any questions you have while you are in Bologna. From restaurant recommendations to the best activities to do, they will be happy to assist you.

We provide a list of the best activities, day trips, and sites to see while you are in Bologna for the month. 

The Stay Awhile team is here to support you during your stay to ensure that you have the best experience possible. 

Make new friends with the other group members so you can explore and eat your way through Bologna together.

We will arrange a transfer from the airport to your accommodation when you arrive. 

This is only available for people who arrive on the first day of the stay.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED:

Flights to and from Bologna are not included in the program fee. You are responsible for booking your own flights.

*While Bologna does have an airport, you can also look into flying into Milan or Venice and taking the train into Bologna. 

Not everyone will need a visa, but if you do, please make sure that you have all of the correct documents well in advance. 

We do not provide visa services.

We require travel insurance for our guests so you are covered in case of an emergency.

We provide the meals during the group dinners, as well as meals that are included in some of the activities.

All other meals are not included.

We provide four tours during the trip, but want to give you the autonomy and freedom to explore the city and region on your own.

We will provide a list of additional experiences that you are welcome to book on your own.

We provide transportation on your tours but local transportation (bus, metro, train, etc.) is not included.
